10-StP THE DARK SIDE OF DICKENS BY HUW MORDECAI: (1812-70) Charles Dickens was a contradiction. In his own day he enjoyed celebrity status and is still enormously popular. For many people he is the warm heart of the Victorian Era; not only did he rebuke the powerful, he invented the modern Christmas, and celebrated family life. Yet there was a troubled side behind the good cheer. His own childhood was far from happy, and he went on to treat his own wife dreadfully. This talk will attempt to celebrate his lasting achievement, while recognising the harm he did to some of those closest to him. Speaker Huw Mordecai Interim Minister at St Peter's Church Cranbourne.

45-CH NEW COMIC DRAMA/THEATRE "WITT'S END": A hilarious new cocktail of topical issues, historical echoes and penetrating wit from the Rattle'n'Roll Players, following their 2017 triumph with 'The Rise and Fall of King Donald the 1/5th'. A noble house. A global muddle. A post-Brexit puzzle. It's summer 2019. Brexit has taken place - in some form or other. Pro-Brexiteers, anti-Brexiteers and campaigners for scores of other causes, both worthy and wacky, enlightened and eccentric, are converging on the annual Festival of Freedom at Witt's End, an ancient crumbling Berkshire mansion. Site manager Kim is tearing her hair out at scatter-brained site owner Emily. Emily's husband Wallace is plotting to sabotage the festival and build an exclusive resort for the rich and famous. He aims to hijack a left-over EU grant originally intended for the next-door deprived estate. Can bumptious local busybody Gladys and nerdy fantasist Peter get there first? What is the future for Witt's End - and, symbolically, England? For more details contact: Gabriel Chanan gabriel.chanan@talktalk.net
