This year's brand new Monster Workshop. Paint two papier maché Mini-Monsters with vibrant acrylic paints and make them part of a small play with a provided fun script for your own mini-show. The Workshop is lead by Jonathan Greenyer who created and built all 60 unique, 20cm tall, 3-legged papier maché Mini Monsters, each with teeth and funny faces and maybe hair, or hats or worse. Take them home at the end of the session when fully painted.
Mini Monsters were an idea from the fertile imagination of my grand daughter Molly Howson aged 11, who also wrote the play script we shall use (and enact) on the day of the workshop, an example that might encourage you to write your own funny script at home.
We suggest you wear old clothes as it gets very messy. This workshop requires children to be creative with paint and brushes, focusing and working for over an hour on painting their own unique glove puppets. All materials, full supervision and guidance is provided.

Come along to this workshop with Aurora Spain, have some fun and paint a delightful owl in gouache paints. Suitable for all abilities.
The term gouache originated in France in the 18th century, but the earliest gouache paints are known to have been made in Greece and Egypt are were very similar to tempera paints which are usually semi-opaque. The modern version which we use today are opaque. They are basically pigments mixed with a binding agent and water and when applied produce a flat, opaque finish giving a solid graphic feel with no reflection or sheen. Unlike traditional water colour paints, which are transparent qouache completely covers the paper and this makes them ideally suited for fast, colourful and bold designs. Easy to use and easy to reactivate - just add water to the dry pigments.
There are somevery well known painters who used gouache in their work, notably Henri Matisse who used this medium to achieve the flat, bold colour for his paper cut-outs. See them in The Tate. £10 material charge per person payable in advance when booking)

Gabriel Chanan gives a fascinating talk on Holbein and Shakespeare. A generation apart, but their evocations of the Tudor period interact in our imaginations. Hans Holbein spent only 11 years in England – precisely the years in which Henry VIII’s arguments with the Pope triggered the English Reformation. Holbein’s portraits of the men and women of his court have defined our image of the period ever after. Holbein left no writings. Shakespeare said nothing about paintings. Yet Holbein’s images and Shakespeare’s words, each transcendent in its own sphere, combine to make us feel we can imagine the Tudors as real people more than almost any other historical figures. This entertaining and well-illustrated talk by the very skilled and experienced Gabriel Chanan sketches Holbein’s fast-moving career, finds some surprising parallels between him and Shakespeare, and concludes where their respective depictions meet and fuse: at the lethal court of Henry VIII.

HANDBELL RINGING in All Saints Church Binfield. No previous experience is required, you will learn to ring a hand bell and then progress to ringing a simple tune! Even if you do not have a musical background you will enjoy joining in with hand bells - there are two tutors Keith Rowland and Jill Glennerster with over 50 years experience between them. Hand Bell History: Handheld bells have a long history in this country going back to the late 17th Century.
Originally, tuned sets of handbells were used by Tower bell ringers to practice the complicated algorithms of change ringing outside their towers offering a quieter and more versatile way of practicing whilst not annoying the church neighbours! It was also more pleasant for the ringers to learn and practise in the warmth of the local pub rather than in a cold tower in winter. The handbell sets used by change ringers had the same number of bells as in the towers – generally six to twelve, tuned to a diatonic scale.

Findyourself immersed and in awe of the magic of nature, using plants and flowers to create your very own natural inks. Add a little science and watch colours transform in front of your eyes! By introducing your little one to the simple science of creating inks using natural, foraged materials, you are opening them up to a world of curiosity, exploring cause and effect, mindfulness and an appreciation for the natural world. Nature and process art both have healing properties and so by combining these we hope to bring you moments of peace, mindfulness and pure enjoyment, creating those precious memories and valuable foundations for you and your precious little ones.
With no set rules, you have the freedom to explore and create by listening to the materials, exploring what you can create and most importantly have fun in the process. Have you ever admired how beautiful the natural world is but yet when you look closely, the imperfections and transitions through seasons are what make it so beautiful. This is part of the magic of using nature to create art, it cannot be perfect, and so instead just have fun, explore, experiment and trust in the magic as this is where the true beauty lies.

By popular demand, a fun evening of Scottish dancing led and directed by the Strathallan Band. Ceilidh (pronounced Kay-Lee) is from the Gaelic for party or gathering. With our Ceilidh you’re walked through the steps by Bob Oxtoby - The Caller so there’s nothing to be worried about! We will also have help from members of Bracknell Reel Club (Bracknell Reel Club meet at Bullbrook Community Centre on Thursday evenings) Enjoy well known traditional tunes and experience a fun party atmosphere. Strathallan formed in January 2007, and quickly made a name for high quality and exciting dance music, and always with a cheerful smile! It’s a reputation that we’re proud to maintain as we continue to play across Southern England, into the West Country and South Wales and further afield. Strathallan plays for country dances, grand society balls, parties and weddings, and we are equally at home with Scottish, English, Irish and American music. We took our name from the lovely estate of Strathallan School in Perthshire, where Ann lived as a child, and our tartan is the modern ‘Heart of Scotland’.Friday 1st November 2024 from 19.00 to 21.00
